Mardan is the headquarters of Mardan
District in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province. It is the de-facto headquarters
of the Yousafzai tribe and the second most populous city in the
province after Peshawar. Mardan is a federation of a number of small
towns which over time have merged into one large city.
Charsadda is the headquarters of Charsadda District, roughly 29 kilometers from the provincial capital of Peshawar. The district consists of two main geographical parts: Hashtnagar (Ashnaghar) and Doaba (Duava). The town was the site of the ancient city of Pushkalavati.
Nowshera, known locally as Nowkhaar is the headquarters of Nowshera District and an important military town - it lies on the Grand Trunk Road, just east of Peshawar.
