The release of ‘Rang Rasiya’ a movie based on the legendary
painter Raja Ravi Verma has been given a restraining order on its
release. The restrain order was passed by the Mavelikkara munsiff court.
A Randeep Hooda starrer Rang Rasiya was given this restraining order
following a complaint by Indiradevi Kunjamma, granddaughter of Ravi
Varma. Raja Ravi Verma’s family is not happy with the great artiste
being portrayed as a womanizer in the film.
As per sources, Judge Prasun Mohan made it clear that the makers of
the movie should not exhibit it without adding a disclaimer that film
has no connection with the personal life of Varma. Bhaskaran Nair,
advocate of the plaintiff, had argued in court that exhibiting the movie
without a disclaimer will defame the family.
A Public Interest Litigation has been filed by S Amrutha Kumar of Thekkekkara in Mavelikkara through advocate Archana Narayanan before the Kerala high court seeking to ban exhibition of the movie. It alleged that the film portrays him as a womanizer, claiming that it is a true story and that it reveals the “truth behind the legendary artist” without any disclaimer. This tarnishes the image of the great painter.
The petition further stated that the film violates provisions of the Cinematograph Act, 1952, as it was against the interest of the country, public order, decency and morality and was defamatory to the members of the artist’s family.
